Overview

Paphos is a bustling city located on the western side of the island of Cyprus. Surrounded by the Mediterranean sea.

In Greco-Roman times Paphos was the island's capital where it continued as the island's first city for more than seven centuries, retaining its importance under Roman rule its most famous Governor Sergius Paulus, was converted to Christianity by St Paul in 45 AD . The remains of the Roman Governor's palace, where extensive, fine mosaics are a major tourist attraction. The apostle Paul of Tarsus visited the town during the first century. The town of Paphos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage. In 1980 the archaeological sites of New Pafos (Kato Pafos) and the Sanctuary of Aphrodite in Pale Pafos (Kouklia) were included in the International Cultural Heritage Sites Of UNESCO

Paphos is the mythical birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, love, beauty, Lust and Reproduction She was also called Kypris and Cytherea after the two places, Cyprus and Cythera, which claimed her birth.

Pafos town is a busy holiday resort which boasts a beatuify Harbour and Medieval Fort which is well worth a visit enjoy a relaxing meze at one of the local tavernas or particapate in a relaxing Glass bottom boat ride. Papfos is well known for its many Archaeologocal sites.
